How to Login To WordPress Dashboard

Learn how to access your website's administrative backend to manage content, users, and settings.

Overview

The WordPress Dashboard (also known as the "backend") is the control center for your website. From here, you can create posts, update pages, and manage site settings. This guide will show you how to access the login screen and enter your credentials.

Step 1: Access the Login URL

To find your login page, add /wp-admin to the end of your website’s main URL in your browser's address bar.

  • Example: https://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin

Once you press Enter, you will be redirected to the secure login screen.

Step 2: Enter Your Credentials

On the login screen, enter the credentials provided by your site administrator:

  1. Username or Email Address: Enter the unique identifier for your account.

  2. Password: Enter your secure password.

  3. Remember Me (Optional): Check this box if you want to stay logged in on this specific browser for several days.

Click the Log In button to enter the dashboard.

Step 3: Navigating the Dashboard

Once successfully logged in, you will see the sidebar menu on the left. This is where you can access:

  • Posts/Pages: To edit site content.

  • Media: To upload images or documents.

  • Profile: To change your password or display name.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Lost Password?

If you cannot remember your password, click the "Lost your password?" link below the login form. Enter your email address to receive a reset link.

Issue Potential Solution
"Invalid Username" Ensure you aren't using an email address if your account only supports usernames (or vice versa).
Login Page Not Found Verify that you typed /wp-admin correctly. Some security plugins may change this URL; contact your admin if the standard link fails.
Cookies Blocked WordPress requires cookies to be enabled. Check your browser settings to ensure they are allowed for your domain.
Account Locked If your site uses a security plugin, too many failed attempts may temporarily lock your IP address. Wait 20 minutes and try again.
